Causes of Sinus Infections
Before I discuss how to get rid of sinus infections, I’d like to cover the cause of sinus infections. By knowing the cause, one can try to prevent oneself from getting the disease again.
There are two main causes of sinus infections:
1. First of all, any interference in the airways to the sinuses, will result in a stagnation of mucous. Therefore it’s extremly important to avoid blocking any airways. In many cases though, one cannot do anything to stop the blocking of the airways. The most common reason of interference with the sinuses’ airways is actually other diseases. Diseases such as allergies or colds will often result in tissue swelling and thereby blocking the sinus openings. That is why a lot of people getting a sinus infection actually start it all by having a simple cold.
2. Another reason that is less common is if the drainage of mucous from the sinuses is preventet or decreased by thickening of the mucous. This is due to a decrease in the hydration. The decrease in hydration is often caused by a similar decrease in air humidity, but is in rare cases caused by certain types of medicine.
Both causes will ultimately result in a stagnation of mucous - and that’s really where the problem or “cause†is. This thickened mucous is the perfect place for bacterial growth.

Welcome to my new blog about sinus infections. I’ve decided to write a little something about sinus infections because of the fact that I’ve often suffered from severe pain. After a lot of years with pain, I learned a lot about the illness. Therefore I’ve now decided to hand out all of the information - so others can benefit from it too.
